Thirsty Souls

Thirsty Souls: Solo Weekender [Houston, Tx]

This week we're thirsty for a solo jaunt. Can't score tickets to the big game? Head to Houston anyway for a stag weekend of exploration and experimentation down South.

1. Dinner and a Show

Pick up some Chicken & Waffle Fryders form The Waffle Bus, then check out James Turrell’s "Twilight Epiphany" Skyspace on Rice Campus. Go at sunset for a free, stunning light show and leave with stars in your eyes.

2. Hangout at the Park

Buffalo Bayou Park is the place to be, for sure!

Explore the hypnotic underground cistern, make some nocturnal friends at the Waugh Drive Bat Colony, and take in the most incredible views of the Space City skyline all within this 160-acre preserve. Is there anything better than traveling alone?

3. Take an Epic Selfie

Forget the standard brick wall; you've got your pick of epic backdrops in Houston.

Pose in front of a 64 ft water wall, on top of the JPMorgan Chase Tower, or beside one of the lighted bridges in the park. You know what they say - the right picture is worth 1,000 likes!

4. Explore the Local Art Scene

Texas - you might come for the BBQ, but you'll stay for the art!

Walk thru Project Row Houses, take a peek at David Adickes's sculpture workshop, and visit the Art Car Museum to get your creative juices flowing. Every painter, inventor, and poet needs a muse!

5. Zen Out

Meditate and meander at Rothko chapel, McGovern Centennial Gardens, and BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir Houston to recenter and recharge. Gratitude, mindfulness, peace - these are what will get us through our current turbulent times!
